Overview
This is a landfall ramp deck with a one-shot combat kill bolted onto the commander. Because the doubling compounds, a turn with three or four land drops turns a 1/2 chump into a lethal trampler in a single main phase — the whole deck exists to manufacture that turn: get lands into play fast, get extra lands into play per turn, and give Tifa a clear, protected swing when you go off. (The full sequencing math lives in "How Tifa actually works" — everything below assumes it.)
You have three overlapping gears, and they all feed the same land drops:
- The ramp — a deep bench of land-fetch (the Nature's Lore/Three Visits/Skyshroud package, Crop Rotation, fetchlands, and an instant-speed sac-and-search suite: Harrow, Roiling Regrowth, Cycle of Renewal, Entish Restoration) and, more importantly, extra-land-per-turn effects (Azusa, Exploration, Oracle of Mul Daya, Loot, Icetill Explorer, Traveling Chocobo).
- The payoffs — landfall isn't just Tifa. Scute Swarm, Tireless Provisioner, Lotus Cobra, Bristly Bill, Scythecat Cub, Mossborn Hydra, and Mightform Harmonizer all cash a land drop into tokens, mana, or +1/+1 counters, and The One Ring keeps the hand full while they compound. Even on turns you're not killing, every land does three or four things at once.
- The finish — Tifa carrying commander damage, backed by evasion (Rogue's Passage), voltron gear (Commander's Plate, Blackblade Reforged, Staff of Titania), and a wall of green protection spells so the alpha swing actually connects.
You win by combat, not a combo — but be realistic about the math: one protected Tifa connect kills one player, and asking her to do that three times is a lot. The board has to do work in parallel. When you commit to a combat, send everything: Scute Swarm goes wide, Mossborn Hydra and the counter payoffs go tall, Blanchwood Armor or an overloaded Scale Up turns the supporting cast lethal, and Rishkar's Expertise refills so the pressure never stops. Tifa headhunts the biggest problem; the army grinds the rest of the table down. Mono-green means your mana is trivially consistent (68 green pips, ~25 green sources) — the deck's whole skill test is sequencing the kill turn, not fixing colors.
Mulligan Guide
The keep question is "can you ramp toward a protected kill turn — do you have lands, a way to make extra land drops, and a payoff to point them at?"
Keep a hand that has:
- Lands plus green mana on curve — trivial in mono-green, but you still want to be casting ramp on turns 2–3, not stumbling.
- A ramp or extra-land enabler — a fetch/land-tutor (Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Sakura-Tribe Elder) and ideally an extra-land effect (Exploration, Azusa, Oracle) — a hand that can only play one land a turn kills slowly.
- Something to point the lands at — Tifa is always available, so you don't need a payoff in hand, but a landfall creature or a doubler in the opener means your early land drops aren't wasted motion.
Snap-keep hands that curve ramp into an extra-land enabler into a landfall payoff — that's the deck flooding the board by turn 4 and threatening a kill a turn or two later.
Mulligan all-lands-no-action, and hands that are pure payoffs with no way to accelerate lands — without volume they just cast a 1/2 and hope. You don't need a protection spell in the opener (you can draw into it before you commit the alpha), but a hand with zero ramp and zero extra-land effects can't build the kill and should go back.
Game Plan
Early (turns 1–4): ramp and find enablers. Lead on ramp and card-advantage engines, not on Tifa. Sakura-Tribe Elder, Nature's Lore, Three Visits, and Skyshroud Claim get lands down; Exploration, Azusa, and Oracle of Mul Daya unlock extra land drops, which are worth more here than raw ramp. The One Ring is the card engine — land it on curve, tap it every turn, and the burden life-loss barely matters in a deck that races. Drop early landfall creatures (Lotus Cobra, Scythecat Cub, Bristly Bill, Scute Swarm) — they build value while you set up and give you backup threats if Tifa gets answered.
Midgame (turns 4–6): assemble the kill turn's pieces without committing Tifa into open removal. Don't be afraid to hang back and let your opponents do work on each other — a 2-mana commander ramping into "just lands" reads as the harmless deck at the table, and Tifa often goes completely unnoticed until you let off a massive attack to seal the win once the game has gone 1v1. Patience is a weapon here: every turn you're not the threat, you're banking land drops. You want three things staged before you go off:
- A power multiplier — extra-land enablers in play (ideally two, e.g. Azusa + Exploration) and/or a doubler (Ancient Greenwarden, Traveling Chocobo) so a normal fistful of lands is enough.
- Evasion or protection — Rogue's Passage untapped, Commander's Plate equipped, or a hexproof/shroud/indestructible spell in hand (Heroic Intervention, Blossoming Defense, Snakeskin Veil, Overprotect, Gaea's Gift, Tamiyo's Safekeeping, Mithril Coat, Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves).
- Fuel — a hand or a Scapeshift/Splendid Reclamation/Lumra ready to dump several lands in one turn.
The One Ring is your answer to someone else's kill turn. Cast it and you have protection from everything until your next turn: damage to you is prevented and you can't be targeted. Its highest-value timing is the turn before an opponent goes off — their combo or burn turn simply can't include you, and you untap with a full board to crack back and kill them. That protection is on you, not Tifa — she can still be blocked, blown up, or fought — so read it as a personal Fog-plus-untap, not swing insurance. The same logic makes the turn after any Ring cast the deck's safest alpha window: the table's crack-back at you is prevented.
The kill turn. Sequence it deliberately:
- Equip/enchant Tifa first (Commander's Plate → base 4; Blackblade Reforged / Staff of Titania scale with your land count).
- Give her haste if she's freshly cast (Concordant Crossroads, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots) — she does nothing the turn she lands otherwise.
- Now start resolving land drops: normal drop + every extra-land effect + any sac-and-return burst.
- Cast Invigorate before the first land drop. It's free (an opponent gains 3 life — hand it to whoever you're not killing), and +4/+4 applied before the doublings compounds: a 1-power Tifa becomes 5, and three lands make that 40 instead of 8. Same logic as the equipment — additive boosts first, then multiply.
- Hold a protection spell up for the swing; if they have no interaction, just attack. Rogue's Passage makes it unblockable; Commander's Plate rules out every non-green, non-colorless blocker; trample handles chumps.
- Crop Rotation is the instant-speed toolbox — and its best fetch is a fetchland. Sac any land, fetch any land untapped. Grabbing a fetchland turns one card into two triggers (the fetch enters, then cracks) — after blockers are declared that's a surprise ×4 (×16 under a doubler) the defender didn't do math for. Cast before combat it tutors the situational land instead: Nykthos for a mana burst, Rogue's Passage for the unblockable swing (fetch it pre-combat: the activation has to happen before blockers), or Ba Sing Se when you need chump blockers — its Earthbend turns a spare land into a 2-power body while the entering land still triggers everything else. The sacrificed land goes to the graveyard, where Splendid Reclamation and Lumra want it anyway.
- Hold Tifa's Limit Break for after blocks — Meteor Strikes/Final Heaven on a doubled Tifa past blockers is the actual kill shot, and doubling her toughness dodges the burn/fight response too.
- Attack with the whole board, not just her. Every kill turn should also be a wide swing — Scute copies, the Hydra, the counter-laden supporting cast. Tifa removes a player; the army makes sure the other two are low enough that the next swing (or an overloaded Scale Up alpha) ends it.
- 21 commander damage is very reachable — Commander's-Plated Tifa needs only ~3 land drops (or 2 with a doubler) to blow past it and one-shot a player.
If Tifa isn't your kill this game, the same land drops win anyway: Mossborn Hydra doubling its counters every land, a Scute Swarm swarm, or any creature under Blanchwood Armor / Tifa's Limit Break's triple-mode. Don't force the commander line into an opponent's open interaction mana — a whole turn of doublings evaporates to one counterspell or removal spell — pivot to the board and re-buy Tifa later.
How Tifa actually works
Her one line hides several things that dictate how you sequence every turn:
- She doubles power only, and the boost is temporary. The ruling is explicit: each landfall trigger gives her +X/+0 where X is her power when the ability resolves. Her toughness never moves off 2 from her own ability, and every pump wears off at end of turn. So she is a glass cannon on a one-turn clock — you build the whole tower of power in a single turn and must connect that turn, or it evaporates. Never pump her on a turn you don't intend to swing.
- It stacks multiplicatively because it reads current power. Land one: 1 → 2. Land two: 2 → 4. Land three: 4 → 8. Static boosts join the party before doubling — put Commander's Plate on her first (she's now 4/5), and the same three land drops take her 4 → 8 → 16 → 32. Order matters: land equipment and Auras before you start dropping lands.
- "Land enters," not "land you play." The trigger fires on any land entering under your control, from any source — cracking a fetch, Crop Rotation, Harrow, Scapeshift, Splendid Reclamation, Lumra. This is the engine's ceiling: an effect that drops many lands at once gives you that many doublings in one resolution. Splendid Reclamation returning six lands from the yard is six doublings off one card.
- The doublers double the trigger, not just the effect. Ancient Greenwarden and Traveling Chocobo make Tifa's landfall trigger twice per land — so each land is a ×4, not a ×2. (Confirmed: their ability boosts "whenever a land enters" triggers, which Tifa's is. It does not boost "whenever you play a land" effects, so it lines up cleanly with landfall.) With one doubler out, two land drops take Commander's-Plated Tifa from 4 to 4→8→16 (first land) then →32→64 (second land).
- Trample is the point. Chump-blocking doesn't save an opponent — assign 1 to the blocker, the rest tramples over. This is why the pump math is a kill, not just a big attacker. Pair it with Rogue's Passage (truly unblockable) or Commander's Plate's protection-from-all-non-green — only green and colorless creatures can even block her, and trample crushes those anyway.
- She resets, so protect the swing, not the turn. Because the entire power total is a stack of "until end of turn" effects, a single removal spell or a well-timed block-and-bounce in response to your alpha wipes the whole line. The green protection suite (below) exists specifically to guarantee the hit lands.
Key Loops & Interactions
- The land-burst engine (the core kill enabler). Sacrifice lands to a sac outlet — Sylvan Safekeeper, Crop Rotation, Harrow, Roiling Regrowth, Cycle of Renewal, Entish Restoration, Planar Engineering, Scapeshift — then return all of them at once with Splendid Reclamation or Lumra. Ancient Greenwarden, Icetill Explorer, and Conduit of Worlds recur lands the slow way — they let you play lands from your graveyard, one land drop at a time (and Icetill's landfall mill stocks the yard for the big returns while it does; Conduit can instead cast a nonland permanent from your graveyard as your one spell that turn — a milled or wiped engine piece back on the cheap). One Splendid Reclamation on a stocked graveyard is a wall of doublings for Tifa (or a wall of Scute Swarm copies / counters / Treasures) in a single resolution. Scapeshift is the cleanest version — sac your board of lands, fetch the same number back tapped, and every one triggers landfall as it enters.
- The doublers multiply everything, not just Tifa. Ancient Greenwarden and Traveling Chocobo double every landfall trigger you control — Scute Swarm makes two Insects (or two copies) per land, Tireless Provisioner makes two tokens, Bristly Bill puts two counters, Lotus Cobra makes two mana. On the kill turn they turn a modest number of land drops into an overwhelming one.
- Counter payoffs stack fast. Bristly Bill, Scythecat Cub, and The Earth Crystal all pile +1/+1 counters on landfall; The Earth Crystal doubles every counter you'd place, and Bristly Bill's activated ability doubles all counters on your board. Scythecat Cub's own text also doubles on its second landfall of the turn — extra-land turns make it snowball. Point these at Mossborn Hydra (already doubling itself per land) or at your attacker of choice.
- Ramp-to-mana loops. Lotus Cobra + fetchlands/extra land drops generate a burst of mana mid-turn; Tireless Provisioner turns land drops into Treasure (ramp + off-color fixing you rarely need) or Food. Nykthos and Castle Garenbrig convert a green-heavy board into a huge mana pool for Loot's cheat ability, Rishkar's Expertise, or a big Awaken the Woods.
- The multipliers beyond her own trigger. Mightform Harmonizer is a second doubler: its landfall doubles target creature's power — aim it at Tifa and each land is her own ×2 and Harmonizer's ×2 = ×4 per land drop (or point it at a Hydra/Scute board instead). Tifa's Limit Break is the instant-speed finisher: Meteor Strikes doubles her power and toughness mid-combat, Final Heaven triples — cast it after blocks for the kill, and note it fixes her 2-toughness glass jaw at the same time. Scale Up sets her base power to 6 before any doubling (6 → 12 → 24 → 48 off three lands) — or overload it for the team on an alpha-strike turn. Invigorate is the free version of the same idea: +4/+4 for no mana while you control a Forest (an opponent gains 3 life — pick one you aren't attacking), and cast pre-doubling it multiplies just like the equipment. Forgotten Ancient grows off every spell anyone casts, then its upkeep trigger moves the pile onto Tifa — those are permanent +1/+1 counters that raise her base for every future doubling, unlike her own until-end-of-turn pumps. Hero's Blade attaches free whenever a legendary enters — a recast Tifa picks it up for +3/+2 before the count starts.
- The instant land-burst suite doubles at instant speed. Harrow (lands enter untapped, sac is a cost), Roiling Regrowth and Cycle of Renewal (tapped, sac on resolution — if the spell is countered you keep the land), and Entish Restoration (three basics once you have a 4-power creature, which a mid-doubling Tifa trivially is) each hand you two landfall triggers whenever you want them — end of an opponent's turn to grow Mossborn Hydra and Scute Swarm on their clock, or mid-combat as extra doublings.
- The One Ring is the card engine — and it's built for a race. Indestructible, draws escalating cards every turn, and the burden life-loss is a real clock only in decks that grind; this one aims to end the game before the counters matter. Deck-specific wrinkle: the protection-from-everything turn blanks a targeted wrath or a burn-out attempt aimed at you, but it protects the player, not the board — don't read it as Heroic Intervention. Its best cast is the turn before someone else goes off (see Game Plan).
- Sword of the Animist makes every attack self-fueling. Its trigger fetches a basic when the equipped creature attacks — that's a landfall mid-combat, after attackers are declared and before damage — so an equipped Tifa doubles once more on the way in, every swing — and it thins basics out of the deck while triggering every other landfall payoff mid-combat.
- Card-draw off the pump. Rishkar's Expertise draws equal to your greatest power — cast it after you've doubled Tifa (or a Hydra) the same turn and it refills your whole hand, plus a free MV-5-or-less spell. Hunter's Insight on a connecting trampler draws cards equal to combat damage dealt — a 32-power hit that gets through draws a mountain. Both reward loading up before you resolve them.
- Fight/ping removal via raw power. Ram Through and Archdruid's Charm's second mode let a pumped creature deal its power to an opposing creature; with trample, Ram Through spills the excess at the player's face. A doubled Tifa clears any blocker and still connects.
- Protection package (make the swing stick). Sylvan Safekeeper sacrifices lands for shroud — and those sacrificed lands become fuel for your next Splendid Reclamation/Lumra. Blossoming Defense, Snakeskin Veil, Gaea's Gift, Overprotect, and Tamiyo's Safekeeping are one-mana insurance you hold up on the kill turn; Heroic Intervention blanks a board wipe or a spot-removal-in-response. Commander's Plate gives protection from every non-green color (unblockable by and unkillable-by most of the table); Mithril Coat flashes on indestructibility; Swiftfoot Boots / Lightning Greaves supply haste plus hexproof/shroud so a freshly recast Tifa can swing the turn she lands and dodge targeted answers. Krosan Grip, Beast Within, Nature's Claim, and Boseiju handle the artifacts/enchantments that would otherwise stop the attack.
- Concordant Crossroads is symmetric. It gives all creatures haste, including a freshly cast Tifa or a Loot-cheated creature — but also your opponents' new bodies. Deploy it when the haste matters more to you than to them, typically the turn you intend to go off.

No infinites. Every listed combo is the same two-card commander-damage kill in nine flavors: Scale Up + Tifa + one self-sacrificing land = 24 commander damage, enough to delete a player who can't block her. It costs exactly plus a land drop.
The worked line (Fabled Passage as the exemplar):
- Tifa is on the battlefield and able to attack. Cast Scale Up () targeting her — she's now a 6/4 Wurm (base power set before any doubling; note the Wurm overwrite means Commander's Plate's +3 and other boosts still apply on top).
- Play Fabled Passage as your land for the turn — landfall doubling #1: 12.
- Crack it, fetch a basic — the basic enters, doubling #2: 24.
- Swing at someone who can't block her (Rogue's Passage, Commander's Plate protection vs. a mono-nongreen board, or just no untapped bodies). 24 ≥ 21 — that player loses on commander damage.
The nine enabling lands (any one of them is the second card): the crack-fetches — Fabled Passage, Prismatic Vista, Windswept Heath, Wooded Foothills, Verdant Catacombs, Misty Rainforest — and the enters-then-sacs — Cabaretti Courtyard, Riveteers Overlook, Brokers Hideout (those trigger on entering and on the fetched basic, same two doublings with no activation cost). All nine assemble identically.
Deck-native extensions of the same math: any plain land drop plus a held Crop Rotation is the same two triggers, with the second one arriving at instant speed after blocks; a doubler (Ancient Greenwarden, Traveling Chocobo) turns the same line into 6 → 24 → 96; and if the swing is blocked anyway, Tifa's Limit Break after blocks pushes the trample damage through regardless.
Common Pitfalls
- Going too early is THE misplay. A half-charged Tifa into open mana kills nobody and tells the whole table exactly what the deck does. Bide your time, build the rest of the board, look like you're durdling even — then load the railgun and blast someone. The kill loses nothing by waiting a turn; it loses everything to one removal spell.
- Fighting the table's battles for them. Let other people play their game and whittle each other down — you're a 2-mana commander playing "just lands," and every turn you're ignored is free setup. The deck's best games end with one massive attack once the field has thinned, not with Tifa trading into three untapped opponents.
- Pumping on a no-swing turn. Every doubling evaporates at end of turn; landfall triggers spent while you can't (or shouldn't) attack are pure waste for Tifa — bank them for the payoff creatures instead.
- Sequencing boosts after lands. Equipment, Invigorate, and Scale Up multiply only if they land before the doublings — additive first, then multiply, every time.
